CASE STUDIES

Cadbury Adams - Case Study

Visual8 assisted the Cadbury Adams plant in re-organizing its plant layout. Modifications to the current plant layout were required to accommodate Packaging operations that were previously carried out at a different plant.

Given the production volumes that were planned for the future, the company wanted to ensure that it had designed sufficient capacity into the new plant layout to avoid bottleneck issues through either space or production flow constraints. The simulation model was used to investigate the new plant's operation under various scenarios including:
  • Production volume increases
  • Shipping and receiving interruptions
  • Equipment reliability changes

Meat Processing Plant - Case Study

A meat processing plant wished to determine whether or not a set of proposed new equipment would be able to meet the requirements of its oven schedule.

Visual8 constructed a system, complete with combo dumpers, hoppers, skinners, injector, macerator, brine pumps, grinders, binder tanks, and ovens.

The model results were designed to show the cook schedule adherence, system throughput, operator hours, and operator utilization. These results proved that the new equipment would indeed meet the cook schedule requirements.

Furniture Manufacturer - Case Study

Manufacturing Simulation Software graphic Armstrong, a furniture manufacturer, wished to determine the most suitable production layout and capacity levels required to meet desired product throughput levels.

Visual8 constructed a model which allowed for rigorous testing of potential situations that might have caused Boardmill blockages or production shutdowns. This analysis assisted in the design of a system where the Boardmill could operate at maximum capacity in an uninterrupted fashion. The model also allowed users to evaluate alternative crew staffing plans to help in reducing labor costs.

The model covered the entire future state. It was designed to collect information on all of the required performance indicators, including the:
  • Utilization and blockage of the Boardmill
  • Crew utilization by shift pattern; warehouse space utilization
  • Order delivery performance
  • Good in Process (GIP), etc.
